What You Need To Know When Buying Forex In South Africa

Are you travelling abroad? You can purchase your foreign currency 60 days before your depature date. You can come into one of Inter Africa’s branches and pay with cash (we can only receive R50 000 in cash – Reserve Bank rule), EFT or with your debit or credit card.

To ensure your trip to the bureau de change is timely and as pain-free as possible, here are a few things to keep in mind before an Inter Africa branch:

  • Valid up-to-date passport
  • Proof address in your name not later than 3 months (this can be a utility bill, account statement, bank statement etc)
  • Green bar-coded identity document or temporary resident permit.
  • Flight ticket reflecting an e-ticket number and not the reference number.

Travel Tip: It’s always a good idea to carry some cash with you for small purchases, tips and taxi fares

THAI BAHT

Thai Baht is the official currency of the Kingdom of Thailand. It is divided into 100 satangs. The Baht is rated as one of the strongest currencies in Southeast Asia.
The original Thai currency was called the Tical; this name was used in the English text on banknotes until the year 1925. The name Baht was used as the Thai name for the currency since the 19th century.

Thai Baht is the only legal currency in Thailand, and it’s not usually possible to spend other currencies. A tourist site that accepts payments in U.S. dollars, for example, will likely have extremely poor exchange rates and you’ll end up paying much more than you would have if purchased with THB.

When travelling to a country you have never been to before, it helps to know what currency to take. Inter Africa Bureau de Change will help you with all your forex needs including exchanging you Rands to the foreign currency needed for your trip.

Exchanging Rand for the foreign currency of the country needed, the following documents are required:

  • Passport
  • Flight ticket
  • Proof of address in your name no less than 3 months.

If your child is travelling, a cohabitant form is required to be filled in at our branches and the child must be present.
